Job Description

Work Location

  • New York
  • Internship is designed to be in-person and full-time, but can be adjusted to part-time or hybrid based on the successful candidate’s request

Expected Duration

  • 4–6 months
  • Start dates: 16 December 2025 or 7 January 2026

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Internship is in the Education Outreach Section (EOS), part of the Outreach Division (OD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC)
  • EOS produces communications materials and organizes educational events for:
    • UN Outreach Programme on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery
    • Outreach Programme on the Holocaust
    • United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative working with higher education institutions
  • EOS provides guidance and support to Model United Nations simulations and organizes youth events, including the International Day of Peace
  • Intern will assist the EOS team by:
    • Conducting in-depth research on thematic issues
    • Drafting background materials, official letters, documents, website, and social media copy
    • Assisting with event organization, scheduling, and administrative tasks
    • Working under supervision of the Chief of Section for daily tasks, including:
      • Internet research on thematic issues
      • Monitoring programme inboxes
      • Logistic support for in-person events
      • Planning and organization of events (researching speakers, preparing invitations and promotional materials)
      • Maintaining EOS databases
      • General office support (processing, drafting, finalizing correspondence, setting up files/records, organizing meetings)
      • Other ad hoc tasks as required
  • Internship can be full-time (35 hours/week) or part-time (<34 hours/week)
  • Two internship positions available

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (second university degree or higher)
    • Enrolled in or completed final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s degree) in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations, or related field
  • Field of study must relate closely to the internship
  • Must provide proof of enrollment or graduation; official certificate required later
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Ability to interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds
  • Skills/experience in writing, social media, and multimedia production are strongly desired

Languages

  • Required: Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Desirable: Knowledge of additional UN official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish)
