SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
The Support to Ukraine’s National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide is a CAD 10 million project funded by Global Affairs Canada through its Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOPs). The project aims to promote increased resilience and safeguarding of Ukrainian cultural heritage and identity in conflict recovery and prevention, while aligning with Canadian and Ukrainian diplomatic and public diplomacy efforts to counter Russian influence through education and information. The project has four major areas i) enhancing the capacity of the Museum to generate and utilize high-quality research on the Holodomor, ii) increasing the management capacity of the Museum including in alignment with principles of gender equality, inclusion and diversity, iii) strengthening the operational continuity and sustainability of the Museum; and iv) increasing understanding and awareness, particularly among the international community of the Holodomor genocide, including its gendered impacts.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Research and Grant Manager will be dedicated and knowledgeable, who will lead the design of targeted Calls for Proposals (CfPs), oversee the implementation of the successful research proposals and management of targeted research grant(s) focused on the experience and differential impact of women and girls during the Holodomor.
The Research & Grants Manager will be responsible for working with prospective grantees to collaboratively develop research proposals, providing accurate historical and cultural contexts, and assisting in the curation of exhibitions. S/he will also be responsible for managing relationships with the research grantees and ensuring timely submission of research deliverables. They will have experience in managing the disbursement of grants for research.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop Terms of Reference and Calls for proposals for research component of the project.

  • Assess proposal applications and determine alignment with research goals.
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance support to research activities and technical inputs, as needed, on various topics related to the priorities of the museum’s collections on the Holodomor.
  • Support grantees with the acquisition and cataloging of new artifacts.
  • Provide accurate historical and cultural context for artifacts and exhibitions.
  • Collaborate with other museum staff to ensure research topics are aligned with museum goals and lead to the creation of accurate engaging and informative exhibitions.
  • Contribute to educational programs and public presentations.
  • Stay up to date on the latest research methodologies and preservation techniques.
  • Contribute to the writing and editing of museum publications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education

  • Master’s degree in History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or a related field.Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience as a researcher, preferably in a university, museum or similar institution.Essential Skills
  • Strong knowledge of historical research methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Ukrainian.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Very good interpersonal skills – an ability to build and maintain strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect with clients, partners, subcontractors, colleagues and multicultural teams;
  • Demonstrated track record in managing competing priorities and delivering results under tight deadlines;
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure in dynamic and evolving environments.Language Proficiency
  • Professional abilities in English and Ukrainian essential
