The Role

The Skills Advisor Hospitality will lead the delivery and coordination of both accredited and non-accredited Hospitality mentoring and training programs. This role will include working in collaboration with TVET partners and industry partners by providing mentoring, professional development and practical component both in classroom setting and onsite with industries and partner TVET institutions. In consultation with the Skills Strengthening Manager, the Skills Advisor Hospitality will design non-accredited initiatives, mentoring and professional development strategies and meet delivery requirements of accredited programs with an identified Australian RTO or other external training providers. The role will contribute to improving employability outcomes for hospitality students and improve existing skills and knowledge of employees from the industry.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support partner training providers in the delivery of their Hospitality programs onsite.
  • Support delivery of National and Australia accredited Hospitality programs. 
  • Provide onsite mentoring and training for the industries; hotels, cafés and other members of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI). 
  • Under the direction and guidance of the Skills Strengthening Manager, assist with the mentoring, coaching and support of partner institution staff in the development and delivery of training that complies with national regulatory requirements and meets industry demand. 
  • Ensure gender equity, inclusion, and environmental sustainability principles are reflected in training delivery and engagements. 
  • Coordinate with local hotels, resorts, and restaurants for industry placements or exposure visits. 
  • Maintain training records, student progress reports, and contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities. 
  • Support training centre management with recommendations for equipment, facilities, and learning resources. 
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, vocational networks, professional practice meetings and other activities relevant to the role. 
  • Other tasks as required to support the smooth operation of Pacific Australia Skills in the Solomon Islands. 

Selection Criteria 

Essential Experience and Knowledge 

  • Relevant qualifications as a trainer in the hospitality sector. 
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of vocational training and assessment, along with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience in the hospitality sector. 
  • Current knowledge of training packages and experience using a wide range of flexible and effective learning methodologies and the ability to implement these in a cultural and inclusive manner. 
  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring and/or coaching others to facilitate capability development and support change in a culturally sensitive manner. 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and ethically with local skills development partners, government and stakeholders on quality skills improvement initiatives. 
  • Understanding of and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), prevention of human trafficking, environmental protection, anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
