Expected Duration

  • 3–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support substantive work in the field of urban development.
  • Research, compile, organize, and analyze information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, and meetings/conferences.
  • Compile statistical data for reporting on sustainable urban development.
  • Prepare literature reviews on specific topics.
  • Proofread documents and translate (Spanish/English).
  • Edit texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, style, and adherence to established formatting standards.
  • Prepare inputs for reports, publications, and presentations, including tables, lists, graphs, charts, and diagrams.
  • Prepare, adapt, and review web content and upload information to the urban and cities platform.
  • Format documents in line with organizational standards.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • HS diploma (required for this internship).
    • Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s or equivalent).
  • Field of study should be closely related to the internship (e.g., land markets, climate change, urban development).
  • Must be able to provide an official certificate at a later stage.
  • Skills to develop a research project on land markets and climate change.
  • Applicants should describe academic and professional background to demonstrate how they meet the requirements.
  • No professional work experience required.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of English is an advantage.
  • Spanish is the working language of ECLAC; English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat.

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
  • Non-citizen interns may need to obtain appropriate visas and work/employment authorizations.
  • Successful candidates should discuss visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
