Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is in the Social Media Section, Communications Campaigns Service, Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. Responsibilities include:

  • Research, compile, draft, and edit basic information for social media content, often under tight deadlines
  • Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content
  • Gather social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.)
  • Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Attend meetings as an observer
  • Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in taking digital photographs is desirable
  • Familiarity with Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or other graphic design programs) is desirable
  • Interns must provide all necessary hardware (computer), software, and internet connection to perform the internship
  • Applicants who are children or siblings of a staff member are not eligible to apply

Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)

Additional skills and experience:

  • Field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required
  • Familiarity with Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Photoshop (or similar programs)
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in digital photography
  • Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or completion of their degree program
  • Applicants must be students in the final year of first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. program, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution
