Position in the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
Internship is unpaid and full-time (40 hours per week)
Internship designed to be in-person but can be remote based on candidate request
For in-person internships, interns must have a valid visa; all costs of travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses covered by the intern
For remote work, applicant must have:
Full access to a computer with modern browser to run Office 365 applications
Latest Microsoft Windows operating system, software, and security updates
Enabled built-in software firewall
Ability to use a password manager for strong passwords and secure access to UNCTAD/UN resources
Internship located in the Accounting and Corporate Governance Section of the Enterprise Branch, Division on Investment and Enterprise (DIAE), Geneva
Internship starts ASAP for an initial period of two months, with possible extension up to six months depending on department needs
Training and mentoring provided throughout the internship
Under supervision of Economic Affairs Officer and Head of Enterprise Branch, the intern will:
Assist in the organization of the forty-second session of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR)
Support outreach activities to enlarge the ISAR network, including social media (Twitter, LinkedIn)
Provide research assistance on international accounting and reporting standards in public and private sectors
Support activities of the Development Account Project 16th Tranche
Support coordination of data collection, presenting progress updates and results for SDG indicator 12.6.1
Assist preparation of ISAR Honours 2025, including organizing the ceremony, social media campaigns, and developing photo/video materials
General intern responsibilities:
Observe all applicable UN rules, regulations, procedures, and directives
Provide receiving departments/offices with copies of all materials prepared during the internship; UN retains property rights
Respect UN impartiality and independence; avoid instructions from external governments or authorities
Do not communicate internal UN information externally without authorization; obligations extend after internship ends
Refrain from conduct that adversely reflects on the UN or department and avoid activities incompatible with UN objectives
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following at the time of application:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school programme (second degree or higher)
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s or equivalent)
Interns should:
Be computer literate in standard software applications
Demonstrate keen interest in UN work and commitment to the ideals of the Charter
Demonstrate ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs
No professional work experience required, though relevant field of study is expected
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English required
Knowledge of additional official UN languages is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish)
