Job Description
Chemonics seeks a Strategic Communications Manager for the Strategic Communications department within the Executive Division. The manager works closely with the Strategic Communications team, executive leadership, practice leaders, and others throughout the company to support the company’s external communication and outreach goals. A strong writer with sound judgement, the manager leads department initiatives under the mentorship and oversight of a director, understands and promotes Strategic Communications’ and the company’s goals, writes high-quality content for Chemonics’ and external outlets, and assists with daily administration of digital communication channels. Responsibilities Include:

Leads communication and outreach initiatives and planning under the mentorship of a director, working closely with executive leadership, support departments, practices, the Strategic Communications team, and others throughout the company

Develops strong understanding of departmental, divisional, and corporate goals and strategies, and ensures they are integrated into communications and outreach activities

Identifies, researches, and writes useful and engaging content for target audiences on Chemonics’ and external outlets, including ChemCom, social media, and industry or mainstream news outlets

Interviews executives and senior technical experts for the purpose of creating content for external audiences

Supports daily administration of digital communication channels, primarily external

Identifies and helps coordinate practice participation in global development forums to showcase technical expertise and technical contributions to development

Provides timely communications expertise to the home office by responding to inquiries and, depending on needs and availability, to the field by taking short-term technical assignments

Mentors and may supervise associates

Fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation and exceeding expectations

Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in communications, marketing, international development, or related field preferred

Minimum three years of relevant experience, including experience in strategic communications

Ability to connect individual communications activities or products to higher-level strategies and goals

Ability to write story-driven content about complex technical subjects and projects that engages target audiences and enhances the company’s image, with the appropriate level of director supervision

Working knowledge of uses and administration of popular social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Instagram, YouTube)

Sensitivity to diverse audiences and demonstrated sound judgement about messaging

Interviewing skills and the interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with executives, senior technical experts, and a variety of staff around the world

Ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and manage production schedules

Fluent English required; proficiency in a foreign language preferred

Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Photoshop; working knowledge of WordPress preferred

Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4-8 weeks per year
