The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) - Public Sector Department (PS) - Western Europe Division (3-WE) - Public Sector Entities Unit (PSE) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship

Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, you will work in collaboration with loan officers, who are accountable for carrying out EIB lending operations in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Ireland.

Responsibilities

You will actively participate in the Division’s core activities. Your main tasks will be:

  • Financial analysis, including CRAFT, projections and preparation of scorings/ratings.
  • Drafting relevant documents, including CAT.
  • To the extent possible, support the loan officers in the preparation of GnG, AFS and MC notes.
  • First disbursement and handover notes.
  • Support integrity checks and KYC activities. In addition, and depending on workload, the trainee could contribute to the following tasks: market screening and brief analysis.
  • Preparation of presentations (PowerPoint) - Preparation of statistics (undisbursed stock, pricing approach for specific sectors, etc.).

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in Economics, Business or Finance.
  • A first experience/internship in the banking or audit sector will be considered as an advantage.
  • Strong numerical and interpersonal skills.
  • Good to advanced knowledge of MS Office software, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and French. Knowledge of another EU language would be an advantage.
