The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Portfolio Management & Monitoring Directorate (PMM) - Counterparty Management Department (CM) - EU Financial Institutions Division (FINEU), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship

You will contribute to a defined set of portfolio management activities, ranging from financial analysis to market and portfolio monitoring, while supporting the Financial Institutions EU Division (FINEU) of the Portfolio Management & Monitoring Directorate (PMM) in improving operational efficiency, data quality, and responsiveness. In particular, you will help exploring concrete opportunities for AI-assisted automation in portfolio analysis tasks and other activities of the Division. You will focus on supporting the team on ad-hoc horizontal projects (several ongoing initiatives, streamlining, digitalisation) aimed at improving data workflows, enhancing analytical capacity.

Responsibilities

You will contribute to the identification of tasks suitable for AI-assistance, and related developments, including but not limited to the below described contributions and activities.

  • Portfolio analysis through data collection, consolidation, and presentation.
  • Enhancing peer group comparison frameworks and maintaining data accuracy.
  • Support the continuous monitoring of market and political developments across EU countries, producing timely reports on potential portfolio impacts.
  • Perform financial spreading of client banks’ financial statements, contributing to refining financial analysis spreading, improving consistency and quality, peer group comparison and maintaining data integrity.

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in Business Administration, Finance or Economics.
  • Excellent analytical skills and data management skills, and knowledge of financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams). Comfortable working with spreadsheets and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
