The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Secretariat General (SG) - Shareholder Relations and Institutional Matters Department (SR&IM) - Institutional Representation Division (IRD) at its EIB Local office in Bratislava, Slovakia: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March 2026)

Objective of the traineeship

As a trainee in the EIB Group Office in Bratislava, you will support the Bank’s efforts to represent and enhance the visibility of the EIB and EIF in Slovakia. Working under the supervision of the Head of Office and in close cooperation with the Office Manager, you will contribute to the EIB’s engagement with public and private sector stakeholders across the country.

A key part of your role will be assisting in maintaining and fostering relationships with national counterparts, including through the development and regular updating of stakeholder and contact lists, and the preparation of materials and briefings for external meetings and events.

Your tasks will also include preparing newsletters and presentations, supporting social media engagement, and assisting in the organisation of conferences, workshops and high-level visits. You will help monitor political and economic developments in Slovakia and contribute to internal reporting and visibility activities.

This traineeship offers a unique opportunity to develop practical skills in stakeholder communication, institutional representation and external relations, while gaining insight into the operational and strategic work of the EIB Group from a local office perspective. The position is based in Bratislava.

Responsibilities

As a trainee in the EIB Group Office in Bratislava, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the development and preparation of the Office Newsletter to communicate key activities and updates.
  • Assisting with the social media engagement of the Bratislava Office, in line with EIB Group communication guidelines.
  • Maintaining and updating contact and stakeholder databases and supporting relationship management efforts.
  • Monitoring political and economic developments in Slovakia relevant to the EIB Group’s operations and visibility.
  • Preparing presentations and briefing materials for meetings, conferences, and speaking engagements of the Head of Office.
  • Assisting with the organisation of external events, high-level visits and meetings, including logistics and follow-up.
  • Participating in selected events and drafting summary notes or reports for internal use.
  • Liaising with colleagues from the European Commission, EU institutions, and international organisations as required.
  • Contributing to other tasks related to representation, visibility and stakeholder outreach, as needed.

This position will provide a comprehensive insight into the daily work of an EU body’s external office and help you develop key skills in communication, coordination and institutional engagement.

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in Economics, Finance, EU Affairs, Political Science, Business, Communication, or another relevant academic field.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook) and interest in digital communication.
  • Good organisational and communication skills, with a proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • Solid analytical and drafting skills, including the ability to summarise complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest in European affairs and commitment to the values and mission of the EIB Group.
  • Ability to work in an international environment, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. A working knowledge of Slovak is a strong advantage.
