    From volunteer to development professional: Here's how

    Professionals from Australian Red Cross, MovingWorlds, Scope Global, and VSO have managed the transition from volunteer to full-time work successfully — and share their valuable insight on how you can do the same.

    Recruiters and seasoned aid workers agree: Volunteering is one of the best ways to break into the field of global development. Volunteers on overseas placements gain valuable experience working with local communities and often enjoy networking opportunities that may pave the way for future full-time positions.

    But how can you leverage the experience to effectively make the switch from a volunteer to full-time global development professional?

    For one, make sure to provide a concise description of the work provided, the skills put into practice and the impact you helped create — providing metrics whenever possible — when highlighting your experience, offered Mark Horoszowksi, co-founder of MovingWorlds.org.
