While the risks of climate mobility are most clearly visible in vulnerable areas of the Western Sahel, the Horn of Africa, and South Asia, lessons for supporting climate migrants and displaced people are also emerging from across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The world is waking up to the grim reality that hundreds of millions of people could be forced to relocate due to climate change in the coming decades. There is an emerging consensus in the humanitarian and development sectors on the need to promote adaptation and build resilience for people on the move.
And people across Latin America and the Caribbean are moving in greater numbers than ever before. Some are fleeing violence and insecurity in crime-affected areas of Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Others are relocating in search of economic opportunity, including to North America.
