As one of the main United Nations hubs in Africa, the Kenyan capital of Nairobi is an obvious destination for those seeking roles with the U.N. Designated as the U.N.’s African headquarters in 1996, Nairobi also houses the headquarters of several U.N. agencies, including the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, or UN-Habitat.
Based on an analysis of job posting data from Devex’s board, Kenya is home to the fourth-most advertised openings annually. Over the past 12 months, 84% of job postings have been based in Nairobi.
Given the massive U.N. presence in Nairobi, it’s no surprise that most job opportunities are within the U.N. system. But there are plenty of other organizations working in the region that development professionals can look to for roles.
