On March 22, the United Nations celebrated World Water Day alongside the release of its yearly UN World Water Development Report. The theme for 2024 was “Water for Prosperity and Peace” and focused on how collaborative water management can bridge gaps and help achieve prosperity. As the United Nations explores how to leverage water in peacebuilding efforts, we want to spotlight the organizations working to ensure global access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, or WASH.
Professionals who are interested in jobs in the WASH sector can find a range of opportunities with global development organizations such as UNICEF, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank — which are among the top employers in the sector. Many of these opportunities are concentrated in France, home to the headquarters of leading organizations such as the French Development Agency and Solidarites International. Several job openings are available in regions like Ukraine, Madagascar, and Burkina Faso.
As we delve further into our examination of the foremost global development employers across regions and sectors around the world, we turn our attention to the leading organizations operating in the WASH sector.
