    Who is hiring in Latin America and what they are paying

    We've analyzed over 9,000 job postings to determine the top development hubs in Latin America, with additional insights into hiring and salary trends.

    A dynamic and bustling region, Latin America and Caribbean offers numerous opportunities to those searching for a career in the development sector. Over the past 12 months, 9,232 job postings were promoted on the Devex’s job board. Based on our analysis, which reviewed over 603 jobs based in Latin America and Caribbean, the region has an annual average salary ranging from $51,710 to $107,550. Local and regional offices of United Nations agencies, such as U.N. Development Programme, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, and UNICEF, and bilateral and nonprofit agencies such as Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and HIAS were the top employers in the region. In our ongoing exploration of global development opportunities around the world, we now take a closer look at the top development hubs in Latin America. To maintain consistency in the salary analysis, salaries that were not disclosed in U.S. dollars were converted from their original currencies. Top 5 development hub cities in Latin America and the Caribbean 1. Colombia Colombia tops the development hubs in the region with 1,546 job postings over the past 12 months. Potential job salaries in the country annually averages from $51,796 to $107,572. Unsurprisingly, the capital Bogota is the country's leading city for development job seekers, boasting the most jobs. Humanitarian and nonprofit organizations such as Danish Refugee Council, HIAS, and Norwegian Refugee Council are among the top hiring employers in Colombia. Other notable agencies such as Medecins Sans Frontieres and Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT are also actively advertising jobs in the country. DRC’s recent job advertisement on Devex’s job board was for a shelter and settlement officer position based in Maicao, Colombia, with a monthly salary of $825 to $901 View all current job postings based in Colombia on Devex. 2. Mexico Mexico has 880 job postings over the past 12 months, and Mexico City has the most city-based job listings on the board. Development job opportunities in the country have an annual average salary ranging from $51,510 to $109,139. Top non-U.N. employers hiring in the country are FCDO, The Nature Conservancy, and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. Job applicants may also be interested in other development firms and intergovernmental agencies hiring in the country such as Management Systems International and Global Green Growth Institute. GGGI was recently looking for an administrative senior assistant with an annual salary ranging between $20,874 and $33,399. View all current job postings based in Mexico on Devex. 3. Brazil A multicultural and diverse country, development professionals can expect varying opportunities based in Brazil promoted on the Devex job board. There have been 867 job postings based in Brazil with Brasília and São Paulo as the top cities where most opportunities are located. Jobs in Brazil have an annual salary average from $52,336 to $107,105. Professionals may want to focus on top hiring organizations in Brazil such as the U.K.’s ministerial Department for Business and Trade, international consultancy and nonprofit companies such as Environmental Resources Management (ERM), Conservation International, and Childfund International are also actively recruiting in the country. The World Bank also recently advertised for a senior investment officer position located in São Paulo with an annual salary ranging from $86,083 to $159,825. Environment Programme, UNOPS, and the U.N. Human Rights Office. Over the past 12 months, there have been 534 job postings released on the Devex job board with an annual average salary ranging from $56,799 to $107,074. International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Development Bank of Latin America, and Impact Initiatives are among the top humanitarian, nongovernmental agencies and development banks hiring in the country. IFAD is currently hiring for a regional analyst in the country with an annual salary ranging from $61,680 to $83,672. View all current job postings based in Panama on Devex. 5. Peru Peru has seen a growing number of opportunities for development job seekers in recent years, specifically in its capital Lima which ranked top on the cities hiring in Peru. In addition, the U.N Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean has its headquarters in the country among many other U.N. regional and field offices. Over the past 12 months, 500 job postings were based in Peru with jobs that have an annual average salary rate scaling from $50,592 to $106,900. Top employers in the country include the international humanitarian network Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit focused on agribusiness and environmental issues; Root Capital, an agency that partners with agricultural enterprises, and Otra Cosa Network, a nonprofit and registered charity with the purpose of fulfilling the unmet needs of local communities. Other nonprofit employers currently hiring are Conservation International and Water Mission. The former is currently looking for a senior director, carbon finance origination and deal lead, and the latter has job openings such as program manager and administrative assistant.
