Brief Bibliography Dr Negussie Deyessa is a senior researcher and lecturer with a Professor in Epidemiology. He works in the Department of Preventive Medicine, School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University. He has got his PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology, from Umea University, in Sweden. He also earned his Master of Public Health from the Department of Community Health, Medical Faculty, Addis Ababa University, and a Medical Doctoral degree from Gonder College of Health Sciences, within the Addis Ababa University. Finally, he has also worked as a post-doctoral candidate at Upsala University, Sweden, to work on the Multi-country Study on Violence Against Women database. His clinical practice and experience go to the early 1990th. He has worked as a general practitioner in Moyale Health Center, South Ethiopia, Adigrat hospital as a Medical Director, and Mekelle Hospital as a general practitioner in North Ethiopia. He has also worked as head of health service and Tigray Regional Health Bureau in northern Ethiopia. As a professor in his department, he has conducted many training programs in epidemiology, research methods (mainly quantitative), Implementation (Science) Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Basic and health service, etc. He has participated in training on data manipulation and data analysis for students in his university and as a capacity building of faculty members of other universities, including Hawassa, Dilla, Wollaita, Selalle, and Ambo Universities, including Addis Continental Institute of Public Health. As a senior faculty, he has participated in research through active involvement in rural health attachment at grass root level within the public. Dr Negussie has authored numerous publications from his research on a diverse health issues necessary for the public, health providers, and policymakers in Ethiopia. He has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed, reputable, and prestigious national and international journals. He has participated in manipulating the Butajira Rural Health Program’s demographic and health surveillance data of the Addis Ababa University, (part of the African INDEPTH-database). As head of the database, he was participating in generating data as a sampling frame for many cross-sectional and longitudinal research. He also participated in the data cleaning and analysis of data collected on the mental health status of 68,000 people, through converting, and making algorithms to diagnose people with mental illness. He also researched mental illness (related to depression, anxiety disorders, substance use, and schizophrenia) in women related to gender-based violence, reproductive health, child health, etc., and has contributed to the national guidelines of the Ethiopian Ministry of Health in these areas. His experience related to monitoring and evaluation starts from the training course he made in our university in collaboration with MEASURE evaluation and continued during consultancy work for implementation science and interventional research. I have worked as a lead monitoring and evaluation director that assessed the formative and goal-based evaluations. Currently, I am the lead monitoring and evaluation head of an NIH project at our university. Dr Negussie Deyessa has won more than thirteen national and international grant projects and has applied the projects in the country. He has advised more than 165 master's students and five PhD students, and he is currently advising more than seven PhD students and five master's students. He has published more than 78 publications in international reputable peer-reviewed journals.
