Duties and Responsibilities

  • Internship is located in the Conference and General Services Section (CGSS) within the Division of Administration.
  • Duration: at least three months up to six months, depending on the needs of the Division.
  • The internship is UNPAID and full-time (35 hours per week, five days). Flexible working arrangements may be possible.
  • Interns work under the supervision of a staff member within CGSS.
  • Gain hands-on experience in administration of:
    • Conference management services
    • General services
    • Host country relations services
    • Catering services
  • Daily responsibilities vary depending on the intern’s background and may include:
    • Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents
    • Attending and summarizing meetings
    • Conducting document, market, and internet research
    • Working on web-presentations
    • Compiling statistics
    • Generating various reports, work orders, etc., using Excel and SAP
    • Performing data entry and extraction functions
    • Conducting media analysis
    • Conducting evaluation of projects
    • Liaising with other Sections of ESCAP and/or other UN entities on CGSS administrative matters
    • Experience with MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint) is required

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications
  • Demonstrate keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding
  • No prior work experience is required; relevant training, education, coursework, or skills should benefit the UN during the internship

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Fluency in spoken and written Thai is required
  • English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions
  • Non-citizen interns may require appropriate visa and work/employment authorization
  • Successful candidates should discuss specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer
