Duties and Responsibilities
Office Background:
The United Nations Department of Operational Support (DOS) helps Secretariat entities succeed by providing rapid, effective, efficient, and responsible support services.
Core services include supply chain management, operational HR management, health-care management, support for uniformed capabilities, support to entities in special situations, ICT support, and UNHQ facility management.
The Office of the Under-Secretary-General of Operational Support provides executive and management support to DOS leadership, covering strategy, performance, analytics, communication, coordination, and external relations.
Internship Duties:
Support the establishment and management of DOS’s official LinkedIn presence, including profile setup, branding, and content strategy development
Curate, create, and design LinkedIn content (articles, reports, videos, and other communications materials) showcasing DOS’s mission, achievements, and impact
Monitor LinkedIn analytics and provide insights on content performance and audience engagement
Support broader communication strategies using LinkedIn as a key external relations platform
Design core identity products illustrating corporate vision, mission, and values
Prepare content/copy for corporate briefings, presentations, fact sheets, snapshots, articles, and other internal/external communications materials
Support website development, including layout, content, and look and feel
Provide design support across print and online products
Assist in the development and implementation of larger communication strategies and initiatives
Qualifications / Special Skills
Open to a broad range of educational backgrounds, typically in:
Communication, Journalism, International Relations, Web Design, Graphic Design, Data Visualization, Marketing
Experience with graphic design applications (InDesign, Adobe Pro, or similar) is desirable
UN Internship Programme eligibility requirements:
Enrolled in a graduate programme or graduated within the last five years, or enrolled in the final year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent)
Computer literate in standard software applications, especially MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint
Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding
No prior work experience is required; education, coursework, or skills should benefit the UN during the internship
Previous UN interns should indicate the entity and assignment dates
Candidates should be collaborative, reliable, aware of social media and graphic design trends, and supportive of team goals
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat
Fluency in English is required for this position
Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage
Additional Information
Visa and Work Authorization Requirements:
For internships in the United States, non-US citizens or non-permanent residents will require a G4 visa
Selected candidates are responsible for ensuring valid visa and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT) to undertake the internship

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require an appropriate visa and work/employment authorization
