Represent UNODC at United Nations Headquarters, including intergovernmental and interagency meetings
Coordinate with other UN entities and interact with Permanent Missions, NGOs, and other institutions on crime prevention and criminal justice topics (transnational organized crime, trafficking in persons, migrant smuggling, corruption, terrorism, and drug control)
UNPAID internship; full-time (40 hours/week)
Specific tasks include:
Monitor worldwide developments related to UNODC’s mandate (organized crime, terrorism, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, money laundering, corruption, illicit drug trade)
Conduct research and contribute to preparation of documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks, and web content
Attend and take notes at meetings (e.g., General Assembly, Security Council, Third Committee)
Assist in organizing and supporting meetings, high-level debates, conferences, and virtual meetings
Identify, research, and draft communications and advocacy material (text, photos, flyers, speaker quote cards, documents, multimedia) for online publication (website and social media)
Help update Office’s information and resource tools; manage Office records and other key documents
Draft reports of meetings and events attended
Draft the Office’s newsletters
Assist with planning and implementation of Office-organized events
Provide research on assigned topics
Support all aspects of the Office’s operations
Perform other tasks as necessary
Qualifications/Special Skills
Meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or higher)
Enrolled in or recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
Computer literate in standard software applications
Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
Ability to interact successfully with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs
No professional work experience required, but field of study should relate to internship type
Must provide proof of academic status; official certificate required at a later stage
Languages
Working languages: English and French
Fluency in spoken and written English is required
Knowledge of additional UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage
