Internship based in the Sustainable Energy Division (SED) of UNECE, Geneva, Switzerland.
In-person, full-time internship from 17 November 2025 to 15 May 2026.
UNECE SED objectives:
Sustained access to high-quality energy services for all individuals in the ECE region.
Security of energy supplies in the short-, medium-, and long-term.
Facilitate a transition to a more sustainable energy future and introduce renewable energy sources to reduce health and environmental impacts.
Well-balanced energy network systems across the ECE for optimized efficiency and regional cooperation.
Sustained improvements in energy efficiency, particularly in countries with economies in transition.
Integration of energy restructuring, legal, regulatory, and pricing reforms, including social considerations, in post-EU enlargement context.
Intern contributions to the UN Development Account Project “Enhancing capacities in the sustainable production of the critical raw materials required for low-carbon transition”:
Prepare policy guidance and best practices toolkits for sustainable production, including gender and social aspects.
Organize workshops jointly with UNECE and UNESCAP to share knowledge on sustainable production of critical raw materials.
Facilitate multi-stakeholder partnerships through surveys, interviews, and interactive events.
Develop six country-specific capacity-building plans and strategies for sustainable production of selected critical raw materials.
Organize training courses to enhance skills of mining professionals, government officials, and local communities on sustainable mining and mineral processing.
Develop UNRMS-based country-specific case studies on sustainable production of selected critical raw materials.
Contribute to development of presentations and articles to effectively share innovative practices and project achievements.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program (Master’s, second degree, or higher).
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
Field of study must be closely related to the internship area.
Must provide proof of academic enrollment or degree.
Good knowledge of standard software applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams).
Experience with AI and ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Working knowledge of French or Russian is an advantage.
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish are UN official languages.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents may need to obtain appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
