Org. Setting and Reporting
Located in the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Section of the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peace Operations (DPO).
DDR Section provides planning and operational support to DDR programmes and community violence reduction in various peacekeeping missions, including MINUSCA, MONUSCO, UNSOM, UNSMIL, and UNOAU.
Section also supports Special Political Missions and non-mission settings with planning for DDR and related processes.
OROLSI was established in 2007 to coordinate activities in police, justice, corrections, mine action, DDR, and security sector reform.
Responsibilities
Assist in drafting Briefing Notes, reports, and other internal documents.
Conduct research on current developments related to DDR in assigned countries.
Support the Inter-Agency Working Group on DDR, including reviewing the Integrated DDR Standards.
Assist in developing and disseminating communication and public information materials.
Maintain fact sheets and other information repositories on peacekeeping missions.
Attend conferences and meetings relevant to the DDR Section and provide verbal or written briefings.
Assist with administrative work, including organizing meetings.
Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program (second university degree or higher)
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s)
Field of study should be closely related to the internship.
Good knowledge of standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional UN official language is an advantage (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).

Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
