Background: On 8 September 2022, the General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 76/306 to establish a UN Youth Office as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the Secretariat.
The UN Youth Office leads the UN’s efforts on youth development, focusing on raising international awareness and promoting youth rights, as well as stronger youth participation in formulating, implementing, and evaluating development, peace and security, human rights, and humanitarian frameworks.
Internship Duties:
Work five days per week, full time (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) at the United Nations Youth Office in New York, under the supervision of a staff member.
Daily responsibilities vary depending on background, assigned department, and internship period.
Assist in the development of a fundraising operational plan aligned with the UN Youth Office’s Strategic Plan (2025–2028).
Support research and mapping of potential funding sources to support and scale up flagship initiatives.
Assist in drafting funding proposals and concept notes.
Provide support in organizing meetings, events, and networking opportunities to showcase youth-led initiatives and drive donor interest.
Support storytelling and youth-centered advocacy in fundraising campaigns.
Assist in drafting briefing notes, talking points, background notes, and speeches.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Meet one of the following criteria:
Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study related to the internship is required.
Must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.
Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
Experience in youth engagement or youth-related processes is an asset.
Experience in fundraising-related processes is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language (e.g., French) is desirable.
Intern Specific Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
