Duties and Responsibilities
Background:

  • On 8 September 2022, the General Assembly adopted resolution 76/306 to establish a UN Youth Office as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the Secretariat.
  • The UN Youth Office leads the UN’s efforts on youth development, focusing on promoting youth rights and increasing youth participation in development, peace and security, human rights, and humanitarian frameworks.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Work five days per week, full-time from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the UN Youth Office, under the supervision of a staff member.
  • Assist in tracking initiatives to strengthen systematic dialogue with government counterparts.
  • Support research, analysis, and presentation of information from diverse sources, including Member States, UN Country Teams and Entities, youth organizations and networks, and academia.
  • Assist in drafting background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications related to youth affairs.
  • Provide support to consultative meetings, including documentation, agendas, lists of participants, preparation of documents, and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in, or completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
    • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school program (Master’s or equivalent, or higher).
  • Field of study should be related to the internship.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
  • Experience in youth engagement or youth-related processes is an asset.
  • Experience in intergovernmental affairs is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Additional Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
  • Interns not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may require appropriate visas and work authorization.
