Job Description
Internship – OHCHR-OPT in Amman
Work Location: OHCHR-OPT in Amman Expected Duration: Six months
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in substantive research and analysis of human rights and international humanitarian law issues/events and assesses their impact on the human rights situation.
Supports the drafting of a variety of reports, communications, briefings, statements, and inputs for briefing notes and advocacy materials.
Assists in the collection and analysis of human rights data and indicators, including gender-specific data and indicators.
Supports the review of human rights issues, including their gender dimensions, and participates in discussions with Human Rights Officers on integrating these issues into political and humanitarian efforts and programmes.
Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as the identification of trends or patterns, and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting.
Maintains awareness of current human rights issues, including relevant political and legal developments in the OPT.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must, at the time of submission, meet one of the following criteria:
Be a graduate or enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s degree or equivalent, or higher), or
Be a graduate or enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent), or
Have graduated with a university degree as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship on the date specified in the Acceptance Letter.
Preferably pursuing studies in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience to participate in the internship programme.
Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Intern Specific Text:
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
