Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and Documentation
    • Review and summarize key publications, policies, and lessons learned.
    • Draft short background notes and knowledge briefs.
    • Track regional initiatives and compile updates.
  • Data and Information Management
    • Maintain internal databases and knowledge repositories.
    • Ensure timely upload of reports, studies, and event outputs.
    • Support development of dashboards, inventories, or fact sheets.
    • Document activities to ensure continuity and institutional memory.
  • Events and Coordination
    • Take notes and prepare concise summaries of workshops and meetings.
    • Assist in organizing internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
    • Document outcomes and ensure follow-up actions are recorded.
  • Communication and Dissemination
    • Prepare short digests and updates for staff.
    • Support packaging of knowledge products for external sharing.
    • Support coordination with focal points and partners for data sharing.
    • Help align internal outputs with regional priorities.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program (second degree or higher), or final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s) or equivalent.
  • Computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with knowledge management tools, databases, or content management systems is desirable.
  • Ability to organize, structure, and manage information effectively is desirable.
  • Familiarity with knowledge management methodologies (taxonomy, metadata, information architecture, data visualization), web publishing or digital content management (Drupal, WordPress, or similar), graphic design or data visualization tools (Canva, Power BI, Tableau) is desirable.
  • No professional work experience is required, but field of study should relate to the internship.
  • Must provide official certificate of academic enrollment or completion.
  • Interns must cover costs of travel, visa, accommodation, health insurance, and other living expenses.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
  • English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
  • Official UN languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish.
