Job Description

Work Location

  • Nairobi

Expected Duration

  • 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Regional Office for Africa (ROA)
  • Report to the External Relations Officer
  • Internship is unpaid, full-time, in-person (five days per week)
  • Tasks include:
    • Drafting and preparing background documents, concept notes, reports, and presentations
    • Assisting in organizing and participating in events, workshops, webinars, and training sessions
    • Collecting disaggregated data on training participants
    • Supporting advocacy events
    • Drafting web articles
    • Preparing social media content, including text, short video scripts, and designing cards
    • Supporting other information management-related tasks

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate program (second university degree or higher)
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • Field of study closely related to the internship is required
  • Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or completion of degree
  • Knowledge of standard software applications: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Forms, and Teams
  • Experience in Canva, Adobe InDesign, Mailchimp, Basic Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator is desirable
  • Experience with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation is desirable
  • Professional work experience is not required

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Knowledge of an additional UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage
