Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work full-time, five days per week (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) at the United Nations Youth Office, under the supervision of a staff member.
  • Carry out research on selected aspects of youth policies, programmes, youth-led ideas and solutions, and other activities or systems relevant to the youth agenda.
  • Contribute to data collection, analysis, and dissemination related to youth; support knowledge sharing and management.
  • Assist in mapping and collating tools and resources to advance the youth agenda and support the development of a toolkit.
  • Assist in identifying, compiling, and drafting case studies and promising practices on youth issues to support global showcase; support capacity-building efforts.
  • Support youth engagement and organization of special events, conferences, workshops, and High-Level events, highlighting youth leadership.
  • Support preparation of substantive materials across a range of issues through briefs, talking points, and speeches; provide succinct analysis of key developments.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s or equivalent).
    • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Field of study should relate to the type of internship.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and other analytical tools.
  • Experience in youth engagement or youth-related policy/programming is desirable.
  • Experience in Sustainable Development, Human Rights, Peace and Security, or Humanitarian action is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Intern Specific Text

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
  • Non-citizen interns may be required to obtain appropriate visas and work/employment authorizations.
  • Successful candidates should discuss visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
