Job Description

Work Location

  • In-Person, New York, United States

Expected Duration

  • Up to six (6) months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce minutes of working group meetings and other IASMN-related discussions
  • Produce weekly briefings on relevant security developments worldwide
  • Conduct preliminary research to respond to queries on various security policy issues
  • Contribute to the production of a guide on security for personnel of the United Nations Security Management System
  • Research existing and potential donors/partners and key security-related funding trends
  • Update digital database to capture donor priorities, funding trends, and donor intelligence relevant to UNDSS’s mandate
  • Contribute to preparing donor meetings, briefings, and advocacy events by drafting background notes, presentations, and supporting follow-up actions
  • Fulfill other duties as required

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
    • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
    • Graduated with a university degree (as defined above)
  • Submit a completed online application (Cover Note and Personal History Profile)
  • Cover Note must include:
    • Title of current degree
    • Graduation date
    • IT skills and software proficiency
    • Top three areas of interest
    • Explanation of why the candidate is best for this internship
    • Explanation of interest in the UN Internship Programme
  • Online Personal History Profile must include all past work experiences, IT skills, and three references
  • Must not be a child or sibling of a UN staff member (unless conditions for separation of work units/supervision are respected)
  • Adhere to all UN rules, regulations, and administrative instructions
  • Provide UN with copy of all materials prepared during the internship; UN holds property rights to such materials
  • Respect UN impartiality and independence; do not communicate or use information for personal gain
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication, including report and presentation preparation
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience but should have relevant field of study
  • Must be a student in final year or have completed Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) required
  • Knowledge of French desirable

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the UN
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
  • Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require a visa and/or work/employment authorization
  • Successful candidates should discuss specific visa requirements before accepting the internship
