The position is in the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Policy Analysis and Research Branch, Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes (ALDC).
The Internship Programme is unpaid and full-time (five days per week, 40 hours).
Interns will report to the Head of the Branch and receive training and mentoring throughout the internship.
Internship Responsibilities:
Assist in drafting and preparing documents such as policy briefs, speeches, and reports.
Attend and summarize online conferences and meetings.
Attend online office meetings.
Perform document, legal, and internet research.
Assist in preparing project documents and training materials.
Compile databases and use statistical tools like Stata or R for analysis.
Remote Work Requirements:
Full access to a computer with a modern browser capable of running Office 365 applications.
Latest version of Microsoft Windows with software and security updates installed.
Built-in software firewall enabled.
Ability to use a password manager for strong passwords and secure access to UNCTAD/UN resources.
General Internship Obligations:
Observe all applicable UN rules, regulations, instructions, procedures, and directives.
Provide copies of all materials prepared during the internship; UN holds property rights over materials produced.
Respect the impartiality and independence required by the UN and the receiving department.
Do not communicate confidential information externally without written authorization; obligations continue after the internship.
Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or receiving department.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher).
Enrolled in or completed the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level).
Degree must be in economics, statistics, data science, or a related area; knowledge of econometrics is required.
Interns should:
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Demonstrate keen interest in the UN and commitment to its ideals.
Show ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
No professional work experience is required.
Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant program.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Assessment:
Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profile (PHP).
Individual interviews may be conducted.

Special Notice:
This internship does not guarantee employment within the UN after completion.
Interns are not eligible for professional-level UN positions for six months following the internship.
Children, siblings, or closely related individuals of UN staff are generally ineligible or restricted based on work unit and supervision considerations.

Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
