Duties and Responsibilities
Support the work of the Northern Africa Division (NAD) within the joint regional structure of DPPA and DPO.
Monitor and report on major developments in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, and Western Sahara.
Recommend actions to address challenges, risks, and threats in the region.
Provide headquarters support to:
MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara)
OPESG (Office of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Western Sahara)
UNSMIL (United Nations Support Mission in Libya)
Perform the following tasks under the supervision of a Political Affairs Officer:
Monitor and analyze key political and security developments, including those related to field mission mandates.
Contribute to reporting using situation reports, press clippings, and media reports.
Undertake social media monitoring.
Summarize key public and academic articles, and correspondence related to Division files.
Assist in preparation of communication materials, including presentations.
Participate in meetings and draft minutes or summaries.
Conduct individual research assignments and contribute to briefing materials.
Support the Division’s innovation mainstreaming initiatives.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or higher).
Field of study must be closely related to the internship applied for.
Students in final year of Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programs or graduates are eligible. Proof of enrollment or graduation is required.
Good knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Ability to undertake political analysis.
Ability to summarize news articles and social media posts is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of Arabic or French is desirable.
