The internship is based at the ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (SRO-ENEA) in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of Korea.
Minimum duration: two months, with the possibility of extension up to six months as needed by the office.
Internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week / 40 hours).
Interns work under the supervision of a designated staff member.
Primary responsibilities focus on research related to sustainable development and international development, in preparation for:
The 9th North-East Asia Multistakeholder Forum on SDGs
The 12th North-East Asia Development Cooperation Forum
Contribute to planning and implementation of follow-up activities.
Specific duties include:
Reviewing and analyzing literature and policies related to SDG progress and Development Cooperation in the subregion.
Assisting in the implementation of events/meetings organized by the office with a focus on Sustainable Development aspects.
Supporting the drafting and preparation of official documents for the forums.
Supporting logistical and substantive aspects of events, and liaising with partners and resource persons as needed.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in economics, sustainable development, or social studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
OR enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in economics, sustainable development, or social studies (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
No prior professional work experience required, but the field of study must be relevant to the internship.
Must be a student in the final year of a bachelor’s programme, or enrolled in/completed a Master’s or Ph.D. programme.
Ability to provide proof of enrolment or completion.
Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Teams.
Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Intern-Specific Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents of the host country may be required to obtain appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
