Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Officer, the intern will be integrated into the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in El Salvador, contributing to key processes that support interagency coordination, strategic planning, and financing for development. The internship is designed as a formative and immersive experience, providing the intern with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the United Nations system and its collaborative work across agencies and stakeholders. The intern will support the following areas of work:
- Contribute to the organization and systematization of interagency and multi-stakeholder meetings, promoting coherence and joint action across UN entities.
- Assist in the coordination and follow-up of interagency initiatives aligned with the UN Cooperation Framework and national development priorities.
- Support research and the development of knowledge products and tools related to innovative financing, including concept notes, briefs, and bulletins.
- Assist in the consultation processes for strategic planning exercises, including the Country Analysis, by compiling and organizing relevant inputs.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of resource mobilization strategies, including support to pooled funding mechanisms.
Through these tasks, the intern will strengthen their analytical, organizational, and communication skills, while gaining practical experience in the UN’s integrated programming and partnership-building approaches. The internship in the RCO El Salvador will last 4 to 6 months (4 min / 6 max), depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Development Coordination Officer Partnerships and Development Finance.
Qualifications / Special Skills
- To be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s.
- Good command of standard software applications, particularly MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to draft basic concept notes and contribute to documentation and knowledge products.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
Languages: Fluent in Spanish required, English an advantage.
