At present, I work for the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) as a Political Affairs Officer/Gender Focal Person and my assignment focuses on engagement with political, security, development, and humanitarian actors in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions on Somalia and the mission’s mandate. I have more than 14 years within the UN and USAID-funded programs. I have familiarized myself with international frameworks, like the ongoing Sustainable Development Goals, regional (African Union, The Intergovernmental Authority on Development-IGAD, League of Arab States, Organization of Islamic Cooperation), and national frameworks. From 2011 until now, I proactively contributed to the international capacity-building assistance given to the Somali Government to implement programs for the handling of disengaged combatants, within the Prevention-of-Violent-Extremism framework. I have gained diverse transferable skills in coaching and building the capacity of the National Government’s agenda for peace, Civil Society Organizations (CSO), and Think tanks; exercised across the functional spheres of Peace, Humanitarian, and Development Assistance (The UN Triple Nexus). Over the years, I have collected considerable experience in peacebuilding, Intercultural/Interfaith dialogues, ceasefire/mediation, sanctions, gender/youth mainstreaming, Democratization initiatives, Program management conflict resolution, Prevention, and Counter-terrorism programming and intuitional building. When it comes to my experience with the geographical region, I have extensive knowledge of the context of Horn of Africa regional / Greater Middle East trends and dynamics and well versed in the cultural, historical, and ethnic politics in the region. In addition, my understanding of the region's major languages will be a unique contribution to any hiring projects, during the monitoring, analyzing, and verifying of open-source information relevant to the regional developments.
