Laurent Uwumuremyi

I bring over 20 years of international development and humanitarian experience in Africa including in complex contexts such as Burundi, Chad, Guinea and Liberia. I am an accomplished manager and a strategic leader who possesses strong skills and experiences in strategy development and implementation, in program development and resource mobilization, program quality and management, people management and capacity building, and advocacy - partnerships and external networking. I have an extensive experience in building networks and proven fundraising success with a various range of donors including but not limited to European Commission, USG, UN Agencies (UNHCR, UNICEF, FAO, UNFPA), ADA, NORAD, Dutch MoFA, AFD, DFID, BMZ, MasterCard Foundation, Melinda and Bill Gate Foundation and other private foundations. My strong background in developing and optimizing corporate efficiency and leading its strategy and operations at national level is a critical asset for the teams with whom I work. I am adept in community and country-wide development, restructuring and rebuilding management, and have significant experience in structural change management and organizational development. I am a proven mentor, a team builder and player; recognized for high standards of professionalism and integrity, positive mental attitude and commitment to excellence and ethics. I am experienced in the provision of strategic and operational management oversight to programs and operations (finance, logistics and administration ensuring that each department is efficient, effective and accountable). I have specialized expertise in civil society capacity strengthening, governance, peacebuilding, community development and community driven reconstruction, child protection and development, education, GBV and women’s/children and youth’s empowerment and humanitarian response. I am an experienced monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) technician and a skilled manager who is well versed in USAID regulations and best practices in organizational management. As former Country Director for CARE International Burundi, I successfully oversaw large complex projects with large teams by ensuring effective, timely project/program design, budgeting, operational and technical implementation, planning, financial management and MEL. I built strong relationships with local civil society organizations (CSOs) in my previous roles as Program Coordinator, Program Director, Country Director and Chief of Party. On projects involving consortia, my managerial, technical and inter-personal skills were highly valued by fellow implementing partners/consortia members. The diversity of the projects/programs on which I have worked enables me to draw best practices from different sectors and ensure the use of sound, integrated development approaches to maximize projects/program impact. Mr. Laurent Uwumuremyi has a bachelor’s degree in Law from Kigali Independent University. He is fluent in English and French.
