The internship is UNPAID and may be full-time (35 hours/week) or part-time (20 hours/week).
Full-time internships are initially for two months; part-time internships are initially four months. Extensions up to six months may be possible depending on the Division’s needs.
The internship is located in the Security Sector Reform Unit (SSRU), Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peace Operations (DPO), UN Secretariat.
Reports to the Deputy Director of SSRU or their delegate based in New York.
Knowledge Hub Development:
Support the development of the UN Security Sector Reform & Governance (SSR/G) Knowledge Hub (SSR-KH) in SharePoint.
Source SSR materials (documents and videos) from all 15 members of the UN SSR Inter-agency Task Force and upload them to the KH.
Serve as the SSR-KH “call centre” to respond to information requests from UN personnel.
Support outreach on SSR-KH within the UN system.
Monitor usage of SSR-KH and evaluate the effectiveness of the knowledge management system.
Assist with knowledge management and organizational learning, including drafting lessons learned studies and practice notes on UN peace operations work in SSR.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following:
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent).
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
Field of study should be closely related to the internship.
Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams).
Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts.
Ability to design surveys and polls.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
