The internship is located in the Protocol and Liaison Service of the Office of the Director-General, UNOG.
Expected start: January next year, for a minimum of three and maximum of six months.
The intern will work directly with the Chief of Protocol and the Senior Protocol Assistant to assist with:
Preparation and coordination of activities for the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, and the Deputy Secretary-General when visiting Geneva.
Preparation for participation of Heads of State/Government, Ministers for Foreign Affairs, and other high-level officials at meetings at UNOG.
Organization of luncheons, dinners, receptions, and other social events hosted by the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, and Director-General.
Arranging Credential and Nomination ceremonies for Permanent Representative-designates and Permanent Observer-designates.
Updating and publishing the “Blue Book,” listing diplomatic members of permanent missions and permanent observer missions accredited to UNOG.
Issuance of United Nations passes for personnel of permanent missions of Member States and permanent observer missions accredited to UNOG.
Responding to e-mail and telephone enquiries.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a degree programme in Law.
Must meet one of the following at time of application:
Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher)
Enrolled in, or completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
Professional work experience is not required.
Field of study should be closely related to the type of internship applied for.
Must provide proof of enrollment or graduation; official certificate required at a later stage.
Languages
Fluency in English OR French is required.
Knowledge of additional official UN languages is an advantage.
