I’ve heard a version of this story many times: A job seeker struggles to garner a single offer for months and then, all of a sudden, is presented with multiple options — prompting a new kind of stress.

I can’t say I’ve had such a fortunate predicament myself, but you may well face a tough decision like this at some point. In this edition of Career Hub, learn how to decide between multiple job offers. Plus, explore exciting new opportunities at the United Nations Foundation, Transparency International, and more top organizations.

+ ICYMI: This week I spoke with Roberto Amorosino, a former senior HR specialist at the World Bank Group, about how to find success as a global development consultant. Watch our conversation for expert tips on networking, negotiating rates, and much more.

    Tipsheet: Accepting the right offer

“We have all been in positions where something looked good on paper … [but then you learn about workplace issues] that led a lot of people to leave.”

    — Chen Reis, humanitarian assistance professional

If you find yourself in the privileged position of deciding between multiple job offers, experts recommend thinking about how each opportunity might foster a happier and more fulfilling career over the long term. Here are some things to consider:

    • Vision and values. Look at the type of work that the organization is focusing on and whether that’s a good fit for you. Also, think about which areas you might want to specialize in and if this role makes sense for your interests.

    • Opportunities for growth. Will the role challenge you, allow you to develop your skills, or potentially lead to more senior positions? Consider the size of the organization, whether there are clear paths for progression, and opportunities to specialize.

    • Travel and relocation. While many global development jobs involve some travel, certain roles require longer and more frequent trips overseas, and you should consider how you will cope with these commitments in the future.
