UNDRR, established in December 1999, is the UN focal point for disaster risk reduction (DRR) coordination globally.
Led by the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for DRR (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff across headquarters in Geneva and regional offices.
UNDRR monitors and reports on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation, and engages with a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society, private sector, parliamentarians, and the science and technology community.
Interns work five days per week under the supervision of the Website Officer in the Content and Channels team.
Location: UNDRR Bonn Office, UN Campus, working alongside three Communications Officers on global online and video content.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform internet-based research to identify DRR content and sources for publication on PreventionWeb.net in English (and other languages, if applicable).
Enter relevant DRR documents, events, jobs, news, and policies into the PreventionWeb Drupal CMS (including keyword selection, abstract writing in English, and web formatting).
Validate and maintain DRR organization profiles.
Assist in responding to PreventionWeb user comments and requests and support user experience research.
Undertake quality control of information, including gap analysis and targeted research.
Contribute to the improvement and development of PreventionWeb editorial guidelines.
Identify and promote content on social media; assist in drafting texts, short video scripts, and designing cards.
Review social media and web analytics to optimize content performance.
Conduct online research for presentations, briefs, and social media promotion.
Store key information and data on Zotero.
Support other information management-related tasks and projects aligned with academic background.
Support UNDRR efforts to test new AI technologies for content selection and data entry.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent).
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program (Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent).
Field of study must be closely related to the internship.
Computer literate in standard software applications.
Strong internet research skills; knowledge of basic HTML and photo, audio, or video editing is a plus.
Interest in disaster risk reduction issues.
Demonstrated interest in the UN and commitment to its Charter ideals.
Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
Knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage.
